02 Who We Are
Joel Cooper, PhD

Bridging the gap between Cognitive Psychology and Automotive Engineering

I started Red Scientific because I kept running into the same problem: the tools available for measuring driver attention were either outdated, overpriced, or disconnected from the research methods that actually matter. So I built what I needed, and it turned out other labs needed it too.

With 15+ years in human factors, 91 publications, 3,400+ citations, and research funded by NHTSA, NASA, FHWA, and AAA, I bring both the science and the engineering. When you work with Red Scientific, you're working directly with the person who designed the instruments and wrote the protocols.

03 Who We Work With

Built for Every Stage of Research

The Lab Director

Running multi-study protocols across teams. You need reliable instruments that produce publication-quality data without constant troubleshooting.

The OEM Engineer

Validating HMI designs against NHTSA guidelines and ISO standards. You need compliant instruments with traceable calibration and clear documentation.

The Graduate Researcher

Collecting thesis data on a timeline. You need turnkey hardware that works out of the box, with documentation good enough to learn from.

The Safety Regulator

Evaluating policy with real-world data. You need peer-reviewed methods and instruments validated across dozens of published studies.
